We envision a world where the tangible love, hope and power of Jesus is being expressed by his followers in every place around the world where people call home. In a world torn and ravaged by racial tension, war, genocide, disease, environmental disaster, poverty, hopelessness, injustice and conflict we see the Church defiantly standing against these things. Instead we see the people of God embodying the peace of Jesus in these broken places and following his Spirit into the world.
We seek to embody the presence of Christ in our neighborhood...and in every neighborhood to which we are sent.
As a community we live by the following commitments which guide our spirituality, relationships and work.
Contemplative Practice: following in the tradition of historical monastic spirituality as well as the Christian mystic tradition, we cultivate our hearts in communion with Jesus through regular contemplative prayer, devotional reading, community prayer rhythms, spiritual direction and coaching.
Embedded in Place: We work for the peace of the people and places where we have been called to invest our lives. We are rooted first in these places as known members and humble participants in the community. The peace we seek in our places is ultimately the peace that is found in Jesus as his rule and reign fills the land, relationships and hearts in our neighborhoods.
Rooted Spiritual Formation: Combining our commitment to contemplative practice and embedding in place, we ground our own spiritual formation in the places where we live and serve, allowing ourselves to be changed by them. When we form others, we form them as a people of God who are inhabiting a place.
Proximity: We choose to live within a 10 minute walk of each other.
Covenant Community: Each year we make a commitment to each other to live a balanced Christian life of Communion (Life with God), Community (Life with each other) and Context (Life with others).
Mission: We are humble participants with God who is at work in the world. Though we have a mandate to share the message of Jesus, we believe it is the Spirit of God who moves in people’s hearts. As we engage God’s mission we do so as ones marked by sacrifice, powerlessness and honor for “the other”. We choose not to force our beliefs or move ahead of God’s invitation.
We hold to the Apostles’ Creed as a unifying statement of faith along with our commitment to the authority of the Holy Bible, which serves as our sacred Scripture.
We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell, on the third day rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty, and he will come to judge the living and the dead;
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
We give the Christian Scriptures ultimate authority in determining right beliefs and practices. Written by the hands of humans, we believe that the Holy Spirit inspired its words and guided its communal acceptance over the centuries.
